Meaningful Connections Unforgettable Experiences.

Performer + Songwriter

After growing up in Texas, I lived most of my adult life in and about the New York City area, performing in the cabaret clubs there for 10 years before heading home to the Texas Hill Country. It was there I fell in love with the singer songwriter music, artists, and community. My music is a combination of New York Cabaret/American Songbook style and class, combined with a fun and sassy Hill Country vibe. I recently recorded an EP of original songs at the fabled Blue Rock Artist Ranch and Studios in Wimberley, Texas. Most recently I recorded a live concert with my duo, Women With Standards, at Blue Rock Studios.

I've always done things a little differently when it’s come to my music, whether it’s combining my decades long former corporate career with a cabaret show for clients in Paris, Bangkok, or New York, recording my first CD of songbook standards in Bangkok, or including Texas singer songwriter songs in every New York City show I've done. I love mixing it up, taking the best from everywhere, and being a personal and musical combination of New York Class and Texas Sass!

Author / Writer

As long as I can remember I’ve been a writer and lover of words. In the fourth grade I was challenged by my teacher to explain the definition of “deity” which I’d used in an epic poem I’d written. After reading all of the Albert Payson Terhune classic collie books, of course I knew what that word meant. I wrote poems and school plays; started and edited a sixth grade class newspaper; even "published" a sixteen page “mystery novel” co-authored with a fifth grade classmate. However, most of my life I would never call myself a writer, rather, “someone who wrote.” Writer was a term reserved for a much more exalted achievement and art form.

Today, I call myself a writer. My two published books are related to my decades long former corporate career:

Cutting The Red Tape: How Western Companies Can Profit in the New Russia. Tourevski, M. and Morgan, E. (New York: The Free Press/Simon and Schuster. 1991)

Navigating Cross Cultural Ethics: What Global Managers Do Right to Keep From Going Wrong. (Boston: Butterworth-Heinemann/Reed-Elsevier/Routledge. 1996)

When I was looking for the perfect writing community to explore my work as a writer, to test it, and grow, I co-created, along with fellow visionaries (The Grateful Cellist Dirje Childs, and renowned poet Nathan Brown) Descanso Creatives International Writing Retreats. Even though we are on a hiatus from our legendary international retreats while we figure out the new world challenges we are facing, our Retreat history and the writing communities we created continue to nourish us and our other writers.

My current project is a creative non-fiction memoir, Everything’s a Two-Step But a Waltz: The Reluctant Texan Comes Home. It's the "coming of ageing" story of a very late-life collision between New York Class and Texas Sass, the idyllic life I was living that crashed and burned with a double-barreled heartbreak on a single day, and the life I had to reinvent, changing everything, and forcing me to figure out how to start over - again.

Please join me on the journey of the writing as I continue to re-create this sassy Texan. Sign up for updates and keep up to date with what's next!

Conversations about the Power of Place, the Places that Change Us, and Why It Matters

Listen on Apple Podcast

Dr. Chick Morgan and Rodney Bursiel are both life-long seasoned world travelers with wide ranging experiences, respected artists in their own fields whether music, writing, or photography. They resonate with the deeper meaning of things in life, music, and nature, and search for ways to communicate those stories with others through written word, music, visual art, and photography.

Passports and Poets are the combined perfect metaphor for the experience of the journey of life. It is the manifestation of what literally takes us from “here” to “there” and represents the magic, art,  and mysticism of learning about ourselves, challenging our beliefs and worldview, and coming back changed. We believe passports are an instant touchstone for our stories of places, people, experiences, and who we were and are and could be. We believe the poetry of living in all its forms can be found in all of us. Join us.
